Viv Halton

Viv Halton was born in Ealing, West London, and educated at Notting Hill and Ealing High School and the Junior Department of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She gained a music degree from Anglia Ruskin University and holds diplomas from Trinity College of London and the London College of Music. She now teaches the clarinet and saxophone full time at the Perse School, Cambridge, where she is the Head of Wind and the Director of Wind Bands.

Viv conducts the Cambridge Wind Band, which was formed in 2012 to provide a a friendly and welcoming music-making environment for adult amateur wind players in Cambridge and the locale.

Viv regularly plays the clarinet and bass clarinet in the Sampson Orchestra and other local orchestras, including the K.239 Chamber Orchestra which she helps administrate, and lead alto sax in Cambridge Symphonic Winds.

As a saxophonist she has recorded for the BBC (most recently for Children in need) and for Jazz FM. She very much enjoys playing jazz saxophone with the Halton Trio and of course with the three other members of Simply Reeds.
